Thinking like a bird

By Fleur Nash

I wonder what birds think?

When they look on us down here

Not being aware

Of the connections we share

With all that is far and near.

I wonder what birds feel?

When they see what we do

Cutting down trees

Polluting the seas

Constantly searching for something new.

I wonder if the birds understand?

Why we are destroying their home

By only thinking of ourselves

And how to fill our shelves

With things that are not our own.

I wonder what the birds hear?

When they fly up above

The sounds of crying

From the Earth dying

Calling out for more love.

I wonder if we were a bird for a moment?

And could look down from the sky and see

How we are all one

Connected by energy from the sun

With no difference between a bird and me,

Then maybe we would change our ways

To live in balance and harmony.
